The 2000 Awards

Once again, the British Independent Film Awards took place at the Café Royal. with 480 guests in attendence, this was the largest awards so far. With generous support from coppernob, the evening was hosted by Richard Blackwood, backed by music from a specially commissioned band directed by the guitarist, Keith Airey. Billy Elliot was the most nominated picture, but it faced stiff competition from films as diverse as Saving Grace, The Last Resort, One Day in September and the House of Mirth. Guests included a host of British stars: Emily Watson, Ray Winstone, Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack, Emily Lloyd and veteran actor Leslie Phillips.
